Pickleball comes to Box Hill!

Pickleball is the latest addition to the huge range of sports & activities available at Box Hill Action Indoor Sports. The game is a hybrid of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It’s played on a badminton court with a net a little lower than a tennis net using a carbon fibre bat and a plastic ball with holes.

Pickleball is described by the US Sports and Fitness Industry as “America’s fastest growing sport”. It is played by 4.8 million people including celebrities like the Kardishians, George and Amal Clooney and Bill Gates.

Invented in Washington in 1965 by a couple of families looking for something different and fun that they could all play. The game spread around their neighbourhood, the quirky name was coined, specific equipment was produced and the game grew exponentially in popularity to be named the state’s official sport in 2022!

With the kind assistance of volunteers from Pickleball Victoria, Box Hill Action Indoor Sports successfully launched Pickleball with ‘Come’n’Try’ Sessions on Sunday 11th & Monday 12th September 2022 and a great time was had by all!

It’s a game that appeals to a wide ranging demographic as it’s easy to learn to play, is low-impact on our special surface and you don’t need to be an “athlete” – but you will get active and have fun!
