Box Hill Action Indoor Sports was recently crowned National Indoor Cricket Facility of the Year by Cricket Australia. Michael from the centre shares how they continue to grow their program, the challenges they faced during COVID and what it means to win the award.

Box Hill Action Indoor Sports Stadium is in its 38th year of operation and enjoys the reputation of being the premier facility in the state with the highest patronage. It offers regular weekly Indoor Cricket competitions for junior and adult teams, hosts and manages various inter-school tournaments, caters for school & social bookings and conducts coaching programs.

The stadium prides itself on being innovative with start of the art computerised scoring and competition management, communication via interactive websites & apps and electronic marketing utilising social media. It also regularly tweeks the rules of the game to align with industry trends, increase enjoyment and maximise participation. They recently formed an allegiance with the local Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association through their Cricket Victoria regional manager and managed to recruit a record 34 teams for their junior winter season. They regularly run special competitions to introduce indoor cricket to the broader community, including multi-cultural groups, veterans and those with special needs. In conjunction with local inter-school sports association, initiatives & promotions designed to make the game more popular with younger players have produced a spike in team entries – especially in the girls’ competitions.
